"Returning Feathers Northward - Natural Grace" : Chinese Painting Exhibition (Beijing) by US - Based Artist Philip Chan Opening Soon
In the Golden Autumn at Chongdetang, Ink and Water Art Meets Kindred Spirits
In this golden autumn of October, as the sweet osmanthus fills the air, the opening ceremony of "Returning Feathers Northward · Natural Grace": Chinese Painting Exhibition (Beijing) by US - Based Artist Philip Chan will take place on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at 3:00 PM. The event is co-organized by the Beijing Chapter of the Oriental Arts Association (USA) and the Chongdetang Plaque Museum, and co-sponsored by Huabaotang Art Museum and Yangmin Cultural Media. It will be held at Chongdetang Museum, No. 16, Zone A, Chongde Cultural Industrial Park, Chaoyang District, Beijing. The exhibition will run through October 30 and open daily to visitors from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
Centering on the theme “Returning Feathers Northward · Natural Grace" , this exhibition highlights the artistic explorations of US - based painter Philip Chan in traditional Chinese painting. Having lived abroad for many years, Chan uses traditional Chinese brush and ink as his root, while continuously reflecting on Eastern traditions through a multi-cultural lens. Using ink and brush as his vessel, he explores the fusion and coexistence of Eastern cultural lineage and diverse Western artistic forms. "Returning Feathers Northward" signifies not only the artist's journey across mountains and seas back to the north, but also a heartfelt reflection on the origins of Eastern culture. "Natural Grace" , points to the aesthetic pursuit in Chinese painting whilst learning from nature and achieving harmony between humanity and nature, capturing the vibrant vitality and interest flowing between brushstrokes.
The works in this Exhibition reflect a dialogue between traditional ink brushwork and contemporary aesthetics, blending Eastern poetic resonance with a multicultural artistic context. They reveal a deep cultural heritage while showcasing the artist's unique reflections after journeying between East and West and drawing inspiration from nature. According to the organizers, Chongdetang Museum has long been dedicated to preserving and promoting traditional culture and horizontal plaque heritage. Hosting this exhibition here allows Chinese ink painting and plaque culture to enlighten each other, adding an elegant and profound touch of art to the capital’s autumn.
On the opening day, guests from the art, collecting, and media sectors, along with art enthusiasts, will gather at Chongdetang to witness the inauguration. Throughout the Exhibition period, visitors are invited to step into Chongdetang Museum to experience the Eastern cultural spirit and fresh artistic horizons crafted by Philip Chan amidst brushwork, landscapes, flora, fauna, and natural charm.
